Electrolysis is currently the only method of permanent hair removal that the FDA has approved to be marketed as permanent. Having your unwanted hair removed can only help you feel more comfortable and self-confident than ever! At A New Look By Brook, you will receive confidential and personal attention by Brook Guinn, an electrologist who understands her patients’ needs for removing unwanted hair.
The most common areas for unwanted hair removal are:
Women: upper lip, chin, eyebrows, bikini line, neck, breasts, underarms, abdomen, arms, hands, legs, toes and hairline.
Men: mid-brow, back, chest, beard, arms, shoulders, hands, ears and neck.

Electrolysis Methods
The 3 Methods of Permanent Hair Removal
The Galvanic Method: Destroys the hair by decomposing the papilla (the source of nourishment for the hair) through chemical action produced by the galvanic current.
The Thermolysis Method: Destroys the hair by coagulating the papilla through the use of heat produced by high-frequency current.
The Blend Method: This is a combination of both the Galvanic and Thermolysis methods. This method has combined the thoroughness of one technique with the swiftness of the other. These combined qualities have made The Blend especially effective in treating deep, bulbous terminal hairs and curved follicles which have proven too difficult for high-frequency alone. This is the main method we practice.

So how does it all work?
A very fine, sterile probe only as big in diameter as the hair itself, is inserted within the follicle alongside the hair. The treatment consists of loosening the hair through the applications of galvanic and high-frequency currents which destroy the hair root, ending further growth. The destruction of the hair-producing elements and the hair’s source of nourishment, the papilla, render the follicles incapable of reproducing hair. The skin is not punctured or harmed in any way, and for most people, this process causes very little discomfort.
Electrolysis has been safe and effective for many generations.
Modern equipment is very refined and computerized. The needles are well manufactured, delicate, highly polished, sterile, and disposable. Electrolysis is nothing like the image portrayed by alternative methods of hair removal. In fact, permanent hair removal through electrolysis results in a well-pleased clientele with beautifully, smooth, hair-free skin!
Regrowth of hair that has been treated by electrolysis will not appear for at least 8-12 weeks or longer. Each hair has its own growth cycle, so in between regrowth, hairs that appear are different ones. This means that any hairs that appear in the meantime are hairs that have not been treated because of the normal “shedding” process or from prior tweezing.
Additional treatment of the follicle will be necessary for permanent removal. However, the regrowth of hair is different for every individual. It is important to treat regrowth as it emerges from the follicle. The hair is in its early stage of development at this time, and it is relatively shallow, straight, and much easier to treat successfully. It will only take a commitment to steady treatments to succeed in permanent hair removal! Many patients find that weekly or bi-weekly sessions of 15 – 60 minutes are most effective. The closer you adhere to your scheduled treatments recommended, the more effectively you free yourself of your unwanted hair – forever!
Electrolysis and the Myth of Tweezing and Shaving
Have you ever heard that the younger you start shaving, the thicker your hair will be? Or how about if you continually wax or tweeze, the finer your hair will grow back? Wrong! Tweezing hairs will cause a greater amount of blood to be directed to the follicle which enables the new hair to receive more nourishment. Increased nourishment will then result in darker, courser, and more firmly rooted hair. Electrolysis is the only proven permanent method for removing unwanted hair! If temporary hair removal is desired, it is recommended that shaving or the use of a depilatory is used. These methods, unlike waxing or tweezing, will not stimulate heavier growth patterns.

After Treatment Care
Electrolysis has been proven to be a safe and effective method of removing unwanted hair. It’s perfectly normal to observe some slight swelling or reddening of the skin after treatment, but this quickly disappears usually within 15-30 minutes. Occasionally, tiny eschars, which are a natural part of the healing process, will appear. These too, left undisturbed, will fade away shortly. Here are a few pointers to keep in mind after treatment:
- The use of a good antibiotic or antiseptic lotion should be employed twice a day for 2 to 3 days.
- Direct sunlight or the use of tanning beds in the treated area should be avoided for a short period of time (this should be discussed with your electrologist!).
- Cosmetics should not be used within a 12-24 hour period after treatment
The Cost of Electrolysis
When you think about it, the cost of shaving utensils, razors, waxes, and creams can add up over a lifetime. Much of your time is also spent tediously tending to the problem of removing your unwanted hair. Electrolysis is by far a cost-effective solution that will pay off not only in saving you money but also in a more confident and silkier you!
